To drink or not to drink... That's the question

Anything that doesn't fit in another category.

I'm sitting here, wondering how old most of you guys (and gals) are?

I'm old enough to remember the 60's and 70's and most of the bands that played were either drunk, stoned or both.

Some of them must have been able to handle the booze, as they're still on the go.

I wonder where all the"squeaky clean" boy & girl bands will be in 10 years time, never mind 40? Done, dusted and forgotten. The likes of Lennon & McCartney will be remembered while music lives.

I doubt there was a sober or undrugged player onstage at Woodstock, never mind the audience.

And like anything, some people can simply handle alcohol better than others. That's why I prefer the Police drunk tests over on your side of the pond. Over here, it's blow in the machine, Pass/Fail. End of story.

At least your guys have a semblance of trying to assess the sobriety of people they stop.

P.S. I DO like a couple of pints while I'm KJ'ing. It relaxes me and I acyually do perform better. Sobriety is overrated

Then you should also remember how many died from drug over doses. Almost once a month. How many listeners died from drugs during those times.

Booze was also a big part of the "scene."

In a Garden of Eden (Iron Butterfly)...Became In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida...because the lead singer was too drunk to sing it the right way when he showed up at the recording studio.

3 years ago a bad batch of heroin was making the rounds and a guy that came to my show (a listener) was found dead with the needle still stuck in his arm.

Proven fact is alcohol even in small amounts diminishes motor skills & impairs judgement.

I'll do my top quality show ...sober. :D

As will I. I worked in the proffesionals world for 7 years before I started running Karaoke shows and I would have lost my job in a heartbeat if I was caught drinking ONE alcoholic beverage. So I run my shows with the same attitude.

Yeah, my shows are running pretty good without me drinking.... lord knows how it would turn out with me having a buzz or even worse a couple sheets to the wind. No thanks, I deal with enough drinkers each night.

As a guitar player and half baked attempts at song writing...I made a comment almost 10 years ago that the new music (much of it) isn't singable.

Meaning it's hard to find a musical hook to much of it. The hook it what makes you want to hear and sing the song over and over. Much of it you can't even keep the beat to it.

The music of today will produce very few songs that will be sung decades from now.

The classic top 40 rock music of the 50s-60s-70s-80s are the base of the songs sung at karaoke. 8-10 year old girls sing the Beach Boys and know all the words.

I forgot about the F bomb songs.....some of them will last....What a legacy.

It just ain't the same anymore.

Just a little bit :offtopic: :?: :?:

I have to agree with you, though. For the most part, I think the great songs have already been written.
