Furniture Moving Bill

Post by Bigdog »

I have a job that I started about 6 months ago. It's a small bar that requires a booth and a half to be removed so my equipment will fit. At first the owner had the stuff removed when I got there. Well over a period of time, I ended up being the furniture moving "helper."

Now not only does this hold me up waiting for the cook to "help me," but the furniture has to be carried about 75 feet around tables in the dining room. That's 3 trips worth. My sciatic nerve has started hurting, that never bothered me before this job.

Today I mailed a letter informing the bar owner that if I have to move furniture to set up, I will be charging an addition $25 moving fee.

He should hit the roof whenever he reads it. But I don't care... I can always work somewhere easier....A brand new bar (that wants me bad) is opening 1/4 mile down the road.

So it will be my way or the highway.

Am I right or wrong?????

You are absolutely right. The establishment that hires us has the responsibility to provide a safe and ample setup area. In fact, this is specified in my contracts.

Agreed, my contracts also very specifically state the minimum amount of room that must be provided for me and my equipment. Now, at one bar I play at, I do move a couple tables around but that's to create a dance floor area and it's just a matter sliding them around so no big deal. I think your demand for a $25 fee is not unreasonable at all.

Sliding a few tables and chairs is normal, but carrying stuff 60-75 feet away is getting out of hand. I'll find out Wednesday afternoon how this plays out.

On a side note ASCAP is running around the valley again....
