Karaoke Bingo ?

Post by hirscheyh »

Hey Fellow KJ'S, I ran across an ad for a "karaoke Bingo Night". Was wondering if anybody can explain how this works. Seems it is a family night and kids are welcome. Crowds are down, looking for ideas to throw in once in a while to keep it a little different.

First of all kids aren't allowed in a bar after 10 oclock. So catering to a kiddie crowd in a bar isn't the best idea. I know if I want to go out for the night I don't want to be bothered by someone elses rug rats. Kids are cute up to a certain point and then they become annoying to most bar goers.

Especially if the song books aren't edited for fowl language.

I would put the bingo in the same catagory as a karaoke contest. I think it would be a crowd killer.

I do karaoke. I'm a KJ. That's how I bill myself. I'm not a jack of all trades. After you reach a certain point of adding so much "junk" to the karaoke night, it stops being a karaoke night.

Do you want to attract karaoke singers or game players?

The crowds are down all over the country because nobody has money. Not because karaoke is dying, unless something or someone is killing it.

My karaoke nights are building or staying the same for the most part, give or take a bad night for stupid sporting events like hunting season and football and hockey games. These take people away from the karaoke nights. Some areas of the country are harder hit from the economy than others.

If you chase away the singers to other bars where they can do karaoke, they will be gone for good. You'll become a (BJ) Bingo Jockey.

Thanks Bigdog, I agree to keep karaoke as karaoke, sometimes the bar owner wants to do a theme night, ya know..toga, pj party ect. this only happens once in a while. If were having a theme night, I thought a little extra fun would not hurt. I did get info on bingo and don't really like it, to much to keep up with. Most of the time we cater to our singers, after all they support our effort. Please don't get me wrong, I don't want to do any hiped round more than once in a while. Our karaoke nights are doing ok, like yours, some up some down. We also found that handing out glow bracelets and necklaces work to keep the crowd having fun, most seem to enjoy a little token for coming out. 8)

Everyone likes to get something for nothing. Cheap things from the beer reps to give out always work.

I don't want to make someone sing to get something. I want all in the crowd to have an equal opportunity to get something. I discourage bar owners from doing any type of a contest especially if it involves me and karaoke.

I'll walk first.

Give out tickets to everyone walking in the door...Then we can pull tickets and give stuff away. Don't use me or my show to do a contest I know full well will hurt the night and my reputation....short term and long term.

My competition needs to do contests I don't.

Equal opportunity give-a-ways or nothing.

I'm doing a 16th birthday party next week. I'm actually thinking about doing some games during the party. We'll have to see how it goes.

I did a sweet 16 party just this past Sunday and they decided at the last minute to throw in a few rounds of Musical Chairs. We used fast tempoed karaoke songs and raised and lowered the volume knob. The younger ones had a blast. Even the birthday girl got involved. Too bad she didn't win though. It got cutthroat after the first two rounds.
