recording your show from a mixer

I have a 16 channel yamaha mixer with capability to record, what is used in recording, I'm from the old school which first I said well, let's put it on a cassette find a way to get the cassete to my hardrive then burn a cd, but there must be a much simpler way

Use your laptop to record to mp3 or wav files with software like MP3 Audio Recorder. Run an adapter cable from the (unpowered) main mix out of your mixer to the mic jack of the laptop. After a little adjusting of the record level you will make much higher quality recordings than with a cassette. Of course it's easy to create audio discs from mp3 and/or wav files.
