As a singer is it more embarrassing to ....not get applause when you finish a song or have the KJ beg the crowd to clap?
Either way round, it's pretty sad that the audience can't be bothered but unfortunately, that's the name of the game.
I find it sad that someone goes up, tries his/her best and gets nowt for the effort, while somebody else goes up and gets wild applause from his/her mates for a mediocre performance.
Sax & Dotty's isn't too bad in this respect as there are various sound options that let you play applause samples and this is usually enough to get some real feedback from the crowd.
I think the real problem is that some people GO to the bar for the Karaoke and will applaud, while others just happen to be there and aren't really interested.

I have seen a lot of singers that expect applause and don't clap that much for others.
What can be done to make the singer that gets no applause feel good about what they did? Without embarrassing them.
I like to remain a neutral as possible with my response at the end of a song when I say that was So & So. I don't get carried away with good singers and I don't diminish the bad singers. I keep it right down the line.
I don't feel comfortable begging the crowd to clap for someone. It's embarrassing to me and I don't want to embarrass the singer by begging for them. I will look like I'm begging for them.
I rarely get people that clap for me. And I know I did a good job. It seems as if the KJ is expected to sing good and so they feel no recognition is needed.
I always clap for everyone at anybody's show. I think it really looks bad if people know you're a KJ and you don't clap for people.

It's got to be better than nothing other than the KJ trying to exhort some feedback from the terminally rude or disinterested.Bigdog wrote:That brings up another question.
Would you want to hear fake (recorded) applause if there were no real applause?
Girlfriend thinks that fake applause is really tacky.
If the sample used isn't over the top, then it shouldn't be too cringe inducing.

I use some sound fx at my show and app;ause is one of them. All of the karaoke regulars know to applaud after each singer. If it is a new singer, the regulars really go wild.
As a singer ... I, of course, would rather hear applause when I am done, but I don't need it. I know if I did a good job or not. I don't think the KJ should solicit applause, but the KJ should make an appropriate comment (good job, haven't heard that song for a while, never heard it quite like that, etc.). It depends on how well you know the singer.

Never heard it quite like that...and I hope I never hear it again like that.
