How to put karaoke files onto sd cards and memory sticks

Post by pedrothefish »

can someone help me to put all my karaoke discs onto an sd card or memory stick?
i have a new karaoke player that will play sd cards and memory sticks but when i try to transfer them onto the sd card only the mp3 part transfers over.
it plays the music but no words appear

has anyone done this?

Hi there and welcome to the madhouse.

I think you are confusing CDG discs with ordinary audio CD's.

The audio tracks on a CDG disc are just that, audio in standard format and will play as normal audio.

However, the video (lyrics) is interlaced on the CD's in a manner that can't be accessed with incompatible players and so have to be converted to a system that any old player can read.

You will need to rip your CD's with a proprietary piece of software, e.g. Power Karaoke's "Power CDE+G Burner";

http://www.powerkaraoke.com/src/prod_powercdgburner.php

This will give you two files, an MP3 audio track and a CDG video track.

Copy both files to your SD card and away you go!

What file types does the player support? Or at least give us the make and model of the player.

A program that is specifically made for CD+G is needed. Most people assume that anything will work. The graphics puts karaoke discs into a whole different ballgame.

There are players that play MP3+G files now. Ace Karaoke has one that works with usb hard drives and sd sticks.

This unit is going to be better than using programs. It does it all from the SD cards to sticks. Put the disc in and go.

I don't know anything about this company but it could be worth looking into. I don't know the price either but there is a US distributer.

I would assume, Bigdog, that as he already HAS a player, extra investment of probably 3 figures of Dollars isn't what he has in mind.

The simplest option is to rip the CD's he already has for use with his new player.

Hi again.

What you're seeing is quite correct as the graphics part of the karaoke twin files is hidden in the interlacing.

If, as you say, you can see two files on the SD card, are they ABSOLUTELY identical namewise APART from the file extension?

For example

SF001-01 - Stewart, Rod - Maggie Mae.CDG
SF001-01 - Stewart, Rod - Maggie Mae.MP3

or simply;

Track001.CDG
Track001.MP3

This is a common problem as, if the names are not identical (apart from the extension) AND in the same folder, the lyrics will not display.

HI again.

Thanks for giving the maker and model number of your machine.

This has made life very easy as I can now suggest you STOP ripping discs as your player, in no way whatsoever plays MP3+G

http://www.sundialmicro.com/rj-tech-ivi ... _1573.html

The spec of the machine is pretty good but nowhere does it suggest it plays MP3+G

And at $45 I would bet money it doesn't.!!!

I haven't seen a player under $150 that plays MP3+G but in these days of high performance electronics, there may well be one, by now.

Here, for example is an AWF 2002 Pro player sold on Ebay UK and even second hand it sold for £73, which is over $100.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AWF-Audio-Profess ... 85001r7365

I'm afraid YOUR machine is a standard DVD player with karaoke function and like ALL DVD players, it will play MP3 audio files.

Sadly, this player is disc only, as far as Karaoke is concerned.

You are very welcome and may I say it's kudos to yourself for your appreciation of the assistance provided.

It's a sad reflection on modern times that politeness is disappearing rapidly over the hill with it's a**e on fire.

No..I don't have one, I use a program.

But you still need a dedicated karaoke program to play the karaoke files. The program needs to translate (read) the Graphics file. A regular music program won't see it, they weren't made to.
