Computer based karaoke companies under fire.
Don't do anything about your computer.
They are not concerned about your song legality. They are not the piracy police.
If the bar has a jukebox the bar owner should already be paying through the jukebox company/provider BMI & or ASCAP.
These outfits want to collect performance rights dues or fees. Based on the number of times songs are played.
Don't be surprised if the bar owner gets mad about having to pay this fee. BMI & ASCAP are different entities. I don't know if one contacts the other about a new clients they found. Many times it's a local person acting like an investigator that collects a bounty for turning people in.
The fee collected for bands is the highest. DJs are next and karaoke is the lowest. All based on the occupancy of the bar.
The average karaoke fee will work out to less than a dollar a day. It's tax deductable for the bar owner.
Be advised that ignoring them will only compound the problem. They will take you (bar owner) to court and they will always win. They can be talked to and maybe work out a compromise fee. It is a yearly deal. They will be back. They are legit and legal.
