After searching the internet I have come across several Hosting programs that i think works well within my budget.
Sax&Dotty 42.00-49.00
RoxBox
Pckj 99.00
I just wanted to get anyone's opinion if they used the above programs, how easy it is, reliability ect. I don't want to spend alot of money, but i want to be effective. One of the main points I'm looking for in a program is the ability to have music fade up after the person is done singing.
I've downloaded Sax&dotty, but was unable to find a feature like this in the program. Is this feature important in order to host a successful Karaoke party? What are other people doing to fill in the gap between each singer. I am open to any suggestions
Thanks for your time

I used S&D for a year or more and have used Roxbox maybe 6- 9 months. Roxbox does the fades you want Both are trying to come out with a superduper program but both are running into recourse problems trying to do video and slide shows.... I do prefer Roxbox right now... Download and try Comuhost It does everything you want and doesnt need a high speed computer or need a bunch of ram... But it costs about $180....It is the best I have tried yet....
Here is a new front end for access that works with S&d or Roxbox data bases and gives 2 or 3 column options here Be sure and download the universal condensed font too...

Compuhost will only run on xp. RoxBox will run on 98SE up to XP. If you mean a 700 MHZ computer as being a low end prcoessor you're still talking aproximately over $400 for a used laptop at that speed. I'm running RoxBox flawlessly on a 366mhz laptopkaryoker wrote:I used S&D for a year or more and have used Roxbox maybe 6- 9 months. That I spent just over $200 for. Besides that it only takes one download to get eveerything you need to run roxbox including the ripper program, a decent songlist program- you can trick it into looking just like Fast Tracks reports.
I have used RoxBox since December of 2004 and swear by it that it is the easiest out ther to use, have tried S&D whoich in ease to use is comparable to RoxBox yet lacks the background music feature that RoxBox has, Hoster which while costing what Compuhost does lacks the ease of use and the fading to filler music. I have tested Compuhost and only because of the price is why I balk at somthing that basically with the exception to the fact that CompuHost relies on Fast Tracks which you have to pay extra for to name your songs and print songlists with, while RoxBox provides a songlist program at no extra cost, Roxbox can do at more than half the price.
The above is my personal opinion, But I'm sticking with RoxBox untill KJamp is ready to use. It will basically replace RoxBox.DanG2006 wrote:Compuhost will only run on xp. .
if so once installed it will state that all plugin's (songbook, record feature etc.) will not function until it is registered.
do you have any mp3+G songs imported yet?
you can get an idea of how it works with a sixty second per song demo.
the only things you can test out is the import into database and how to operate(how to send a request to the que and how operate the play button).
It should act as a demo untill it is paid for. Unless he changed that.
register for the forum. maybe it will let you downlaod it.
otherwise let me know and I'll get you a demo for trial.
Did you actually get it downloaded?Does ROXBOX have a demo you can try? I tried downloading it and it keeps telling me that I have to order it Any suggestions?

Ya know, I have to say something that may sound very bad, but I think needs to be said...I'm gigged out every night of the week, I've got bars, nightclubs, pubs, casinos, pool halls...so you can either take my advice or keep doing what you're all doing, but....Are you all seriously afraid of making money?
Apparently none of you have heard the phrase "You have to spend money to make money." You see, if you skimp out on purchasing your hosting software, your mics, mixer, etc...you're skimping out on how well your shows operate and how much money you make...if you look and sound like everyone else, you're just gonna look and sound like everyone else!!!
Someone here was worried about a $400 laptop...the laptop is the CORNERSTONE of your system!!! Are you crazy? I operated with much crap gear when I started out, but in my first 6 months I made enough money to (piece by piece) upgrade my system...I've spent $2,000 on PC Parts, almost the same on mics, my MIXER was $400...And you'll now say, well I don't have that kind of money...neither did I, but having top of the line gear and software was my #2 priority next to my library! (52,000 selections).
So in closing, I hope you all DO continue to short-change yourselves...Y'all are making KJ's like me look good...
PS-If you don't know how to properly tune and operate a sound system...you have no business in an industry BUILT around sound...by the Mixing Engineer's Handbook or something Jeez, FEEDBACK IS NOT FREAKIN' NORMAL PEOPLE!!!
Sorry for sounding aggravated, but I am, too many hack KJ's spoil some of the fruit for the rest of us who know what we're doing, and if you shortchange yourself, you apparently have no clue what you're doing...good day.

I have a main unit I put $600 into for running my shows. I look at it this way- I look for the best price as well as how good it is. If I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it then Who is the better business man? The less overhead the more the profit.
I just was saying that while sometimes you get what you pay for, there are jems like RoxBox that can do all that the higher priced programs do and more. RoxBox is the only winamp frontend with multiplex support. The rest require an outside piece of equipment to do the job.
