Lyric Site Question

I did some lyric searching the other day and I was surprised by something.

Most of these sites want you to give them your cell phone number to unlock the site.

WTF do they need or want to do with my cell phone number?

I'm not doing business with any outfit that wants my cell number. It's bad enough you have to watch some stupid commercial first.

What they apparently want on any of the lyric sites I've found is to sell you a ringtone.

By definition, this means they will need your cell number to send the ringtone directly to your phone.

I have no doubt, however, that after you are daft enough to do this, you will be bombarded with texts flogging you everything under the Sun.

The cell phone number comes up on some and I click right out of there. The ring tone one I can just close and keep searching the lyrics. They are 2 different things.

Cell phone numbers are collected just like email addresses for the purpose of spamming you with advertisements.

Why would anyone in their right mind want garbage phone calls making their bills higher?

And you did it to yourself.

Who has money to waste on stupid unsolicited advertising calls?
