CBSE Essentials 2, 6, 7 and 8? Where Can I find them typed?

Post by dolly1975 »

I have maybe made a bad decision but it's done nonetheless...

I purchased some older karaoke things over Craig's List to add to my own set up and there are several disks labeled CBES2, 6, 7, and 8.

I can't find them online anywhere so I'm wondering if these were collections put together by the previous owner? I typed one of them up...but there are over 450 songs in each one. I have a karaoke book creator where you click the number/disk and it lists them for you...I cope them from there and use Excel to make my books. I'm making books now and know I can't type these up in any decent amount of time so I was wondering if anyone knows of these disks and possibly where I can find them listed somewhere?

Thanks in advance for any help...I'm a newbee here!

Hello Dolly,
Sorry, couldn't resist it!!

The obvious thing, first is that it's unlikely a disc holding >450 songs is a CD.

It's more likely to be a DVD.

Do the discs have a "proper" label on them, i.e. is it printed directly onto the disc, or is it an obvious "stick on" label?

Have you checked what's on the discs in a PC to see if you have "Audio", MP3 or other format files on the discs?

I have Doblon's Karaoke to DVD software and the best I can do on a standard single layer DVD in CD+G format is about 220 tracks, so if these "odd" discs are trwo layer, then 450 - ish would be about right.

If they are DVD's, they should play in ANY standard DVD player!

However, there is another format, called NEO+G which also converts CD+G or MP3+G to DVD but is a stand alone format, requiring a specialised player to use them.

However, on a whim, I had a quick Google for CBES karaoke discs and found some, no problem;

Not necessarilly your discs but Chart Buster ESsential packs fits the bill.#

Hope you have some success and welcome to the forum.

Chartbuster did put out Essential 450 1-6 in SCDG format for a while, but 7-10 are CDG format only as far as I know. You can still find Essentials 1-6 SCDGs in the original packaging on eBay from closeout vendors like TSC karaoke. Each one of these discs has software that allows you to play them on a DVD equipped computer.

Flip the disks over and check that there's a serial number etched into the inside ring next to the hole on the shiny side. That's usually a pretty reliable indicator that the disks are the original manufacturer's.

If they're CDG format and original manufacturer, most likely they're part of the 3 or 6 CD Essential Packs from Chartbuster.
Last week, I went to Philadelphia, but it was closed.

Karaoke Warehouse offers disc listings formatted in Excel and Adobe. The following link will take you to their CBES 450 page where you can select each disc you need, then click on the excel download link.

To create a songlist I use directory lister - a free program
http://www.freewarefiles.com/Directory- ... _9907.html
I will list everything in a folder. just turn off all the options so it will only include the file name in the list. It saves the file as a txt. I open the txt with ms word and set it to two columns - instant song book

I have also purchased the Chartbuster Essential 450 volumes 1 - 6 on eBay in SuperCdg format.
I did not buy them to used directly - a friend has a MP3G versions of them.
I will use the MP3G version but keep the Super CDG version for proof of ownership.

The only thing I have issue with is that I visited the Chartbuster website and they stated they never authorised for them to be put on Super CDG, so technically I do not have ownership.

I think it is unfair that they are continuously sold and it becomes my responsibility to check that the creator of super CDGs has a current and valid contract to produce and sell them.

Has any one else purchased the super CDGs? and are they legal

Got a link for that? I found nothing at all on Chartbusters' site about Super CDG / SCDG. Not even a CAVs link

However, if you call and talk to a rep, they will tell you that a) yes, the first 6 Essential 450 disks were released in SCDG format for CAVs players as well as CDG, and b) yes, there's likely to be legit SCDG discs available at closeout prices. I'd suggest you do so if you think you might have counterfeits. They'll tell you how to verify you have "the real deal."
