He drove down the driveway at a high rate of speed because he was being chased by his enraged wife. Who just happend to have a golf club in her hand.

She is running after him as he jumps into the Escalde. He flys down the driveway and she throws the club at the vehicle in a desperation move. The club smashes through the back window. Tiger ducks to his right to hide behind the seat for protection. His left hand is firmly gripping the steering wheel. As he ducks right, his left hand turns the wheel to the right hitting the fire hydrant and then the tree. She runs down after the crash and possibly drags him out so she can whoop on him some more.
If the police look up the driveway they will see the shattered glass nowhere near the final resting place of the supposed rescue. She caused the crash.

P.S. She is a pretty good shot. One hit totals the Escalde and apprehends the culprit.
