using winamp

Post by Markm »

I am using the winamp ver 2.75 to play my cd+g disks, also I have put all my disks onto my external hardrive, they all have winamp extensions now and I can't burn music for my car or make back up on disk, I am still playing with this, spent a bundle on the hardware, Thanks Big Dog your advice on choices was great. I don't mind spending a bit more, I did buy the holster, and could not figure it out (probably didn't take the proper time and I thought for the amount of time I have to play with this, I would not spend the money for now and returned the Holster, any suggestions.

You need to explain more clearly the issues you are having, Re. burning music!

Once you make Winamp the default player for media files the file type icon might change, and the file type description in Windows Explorer might read Winamp Media File, but the file extensions will remain the same. There is no reason why you wouldn't be able to create audio CDs from the mp3s.

And what is this "Holster" you speak of?

Sounds to me since he thanked BigDog and talked about winamp that he was referring to Sax & Dotty's Show Presenter. There are easier programs that work with winamp. AUtoKDJ comes to mind. Uses the media library of winamp for it's database and request entry module instead of a frontend that operates outside of winamp. If you can use the media library of winamp you cna use AutoKDJ. You only need two downloads with AutoKDJ: AutoKDJ and winamp. If you have already imported all of your songs and don't wanna do it again then RoxBox is a lot easier to use than either S&D and AutoKDJ. Personally if you can get Justkaraoke going that is a better choice.

Sorry, about not being clear
1. I had bought Video Hoster, not Holster, my bad
2. Thanks for clearing up the file extensions, prior to winamp I was able to Burn cd's, now I can't
3. I want to copy songs from my hardrive (cd+g) to create a disk of most popular songs I use on a player as I have a friend that only has the cd+g player, right now we are just practicing. using the power burner program, I am unable to do that
4. I find creating playlists with winamp difficult as I can add a directory, but I can only drag and drop files where all my music is in separate folders, there seems to be no library, I hear I can purchase a pro version of winamp that will give me more options but they tell me that I should not upgrade from my current 2.75 version if I want to use winamp as my player on my laptop.

right now if I can decide on whether to purchase another program or stick with winamp, I will then create playlists for various events, I will not be going to various places doing a karaoke night, just using Karaoke for home parties, you refer to the media library in winamp, I don't seem to have that.don't seem to have one.

That explains how hard you were finding it to operate. I don't consider Hoster to be that easy to run right out of the box. 2.75 is an old version of winamp isn't it? try this: click on the area on the top left corner of the player. This should cause a drop down menu to appear that has media library as one of the options. click on this and it should activate it.

I would recommend that you just forget about Winamp and go with JustKaraoke. It is very easy to use and a great program for the price.

You need to explain in detail what problem you are having with Power CD+G Burner.

Is it possible that his computer might not be new enough to run some of the newer programs? He does mention that winamp 2.79 is the highest he is willing to go. the newest version of winamp seems to be stable enough. The only reason not to upgrade is if your computer isn't new enough to handle it.

I have a brand new Dell, I am just doing what advice I get, I was told not to upgrade when asked and they suggested I use version 2.75,
the problem I have with the power cd+g burner is that if I burn music to a cd it does not play, if I burn cd+G songs, I only get the music not the lyrics, I like the idea of using another program besides winamp.

If I remember correctly, the reason to use an earlier Winamp version is to do with the plugins for Karaoke use.

They were designed for use for the earlier versions and are, apparently, prone to cause problems with the later Winamp versions.

As to burning CD+G discs with Power CD+G burner, I would suggest checking your settings for burning, here;

http://www.powerkaraoke.com/help/cdgbur ... ttings.htm

There are those who believe (Ahem Wiseguy :redface: ) that the ability of Burners to handle CD+G is largely academic these days but I'm of the view that if it's easy to test your drive, then why not do it?

If you have Nero on your PC, then find Nero Infotools, or download it (Google and it's available all over the place).

Run Infotools and you will be presented with huge amounts of detail, Re. the CD/DVD drives in your PC.

On the main screen, you'll see a bunch of check boxes indicating compatibility.

See if your drive is CD+G Read and Write compatible.

If it is, then it's likely that your Power CD+G Burner settings are wrong.

HOWEVER, one thing I have found is that some CD+G players DO NOT like discs burned with a DVD writer and I had to source a CD Writer to cure the problem.

After that, I've had absolutely NO trouble burning Karaoke discs.

Hope this Helps,
Sandy

It's not a belief, it's fact. The only burner criteria required by Power CD+G Burner is MMC compatibility (virtually all modern burners) and DAO/96 or "RAW" mode support (majority of modern burners).

Nero infotools is about as worthless as the rest of the Nero bloatware. If the infotool does not report a burner as CD+G compatible it absolutely does not mean that the drive will not work with Power CD+G Burner. Do not waste your time with the Nero mis-infotools.

If you try all the settings in Power CD+G Burner (there aren't that many) and you still get audio only then it is likely you have one of the rare drives that are not compatible.

Some CDG players do not support CD-R media although I don't know of any produced in the past ten years. This is always mentioned in the player's specs.
