I have to laugh at the "important" information on KJ websites.
What I like best is the "Our Equipment" page. Every KJ has one.
It usually starts with color pictures of the rig setup front and back with every black spaghetti wire and connectors hanging out so everyone can see how unprofessional it really looks.
Then the name dropping starts like you are expecting a manufacturers discount for using their stuff.
Nobody cares about your F**man power conditioner or the Kmart surge protector. They know you use electricity. For outside jobs I use a Honda 24 mega watt generator with....runs on regular gas.....Good idea to bring your own electricity to the field party 700 miles out of town. How many would have thought of that?

If you are doing it to brag to other KJs at least have equipment worth bragging about. Most KJs don't know what you're talking about. Do you really think a customer is impressed? When I see the pictures and descriptions, I'm not.
P.S. I have a smaller cheap Blab Yak system for meaningless parties.
If they actually do know anything about musical equipment they hired someone else.
Sorry but that's how they look and sound to me. Kinda ridiculous and funny.

Pretty funny, BD.
In all honesty, I don't know enough to know if what they have is good, bad or indifferent. All I care about is that is sounds good.
I agree. If you're going to have pictures, at least have the cords tied up or something. That's why I like our cabinet .., none of the wires show at all.

I concur. If I can bring in enough paying customers to make the bar a nice profit for the evening they wouldn't care if I used a toy karaoke machine from Wal-Mart.jr2423 wrote:I learned early on that potential clients aren’t necessarily interested in what you have, or how big it is. They’re more interested in how you use it to their advantage. And in that, is where your sales pitch lies.
Some singers, on the other hand, do pay attention to the sound system information when deciding which karaoke show to attend.

It usually only takes on listen to tell whether you will be singing or not.
The web site promos list everything they ever bought in tiny detail. Listing many items that have nothing to do with the sound. A surge protector or power "conditioner" is not a part of any sound system.
I paid $450 for a surge protector, but I'm never going to tell anyone about it or advertize it as a major part of my sound system.
Listing a certain "name" company as your this or that. Those companies make cheap models and good top of the line models. A blanket statement like, I use ***** amplifiers, could mean you have the cheapest one known to mankind.
How does a certain type of rack box add to the sound? Years ago I knew KJs that had none of their equipment in a rack. They had the disc players stacked on each other and used DUCT TAPE to hold them together. Wires strung everywhere like an explosion in a black spaghetti factory. Nothing hidden to look neat.
I wouldn't list my equipment on a web site. The only thing people need to know is I have a "big one" and it sounds good. They will decide after they hear it if I was worth hiring. Not because I have a "Power Conditioner."
My system sucks, but my voltage is consistant.

Exactly. For the most part, the Singer only knows whether he/she likes what they hear.Sabrina59 wrote:I've never decided to go to a new karaoke venue because of the equipment they may, or may not, have. So while the quality of the equipment makes it easier for the KJ to produce quality sound. The quality (expense, wattage, etc...) matters little when compared to the KJ's ability to use it effectively.
And a talented KJ/DJ/sound engineer may make some lousy equipment sound pretty good.

Ain't that the truth. I see examples of this all the time. Just this past weekend I took Saturday off to check out some of the other karaoke shows in the area. While in general there was mediocre equipment being used (with mediocre sound), the one KJ who had absolutely the worst sound had the best system. All the components were high quality and expensive and it sounded like a great big AM radio.jr2423 wrote:So while the quality of the equipment makes it easier for the KJ to produce quality sound.
