It has nothing to do with how much you like to sing or how good you sing.
It's not about you. If you think it is, your ego will kill your business quickly.
You're last on the list.
Customer service matters most.
How well you take care of everyone at your show.
Being A Good KJ..
I agree that customer service is one of the most important qualities of a good show.
You can have a killer system, know how to tweek it to get the best sound, have the best selection around ... but if you're a jerk to your singers your show won't last.
I do think the KJ should be able to sing relatively well, though.

Sabrina the Cat
Especially if you're needed to fill in on a duet. But it's still about them and not you.Sabrina59 wrote:I agree that customer service is one of the most important qualities of a good show.

I think customer service is providing a killer system.
You can eat at a hot dog cart or a high class restaurant and anywhere inbetween. Where would you rather eat everyday, all things being equal?
More variety, nicer selection, more quality, better atmosphere.
A killer system speaks to them without words. They can see and hear differences. Better or worse. The look and the sound are very evident.
Two taxies pull up. One is shiny and clean inside and out and smells good and the driver gets out & opens the door for you. The other one is all muddy and dirty inside, it smells and the driver yells "get in." Both are taxis. But one can go 65 miles an hour with a GPS unit for directions and the other one goes 30 miles an hour sometimes and the driver doesn't know how to get where you are going. And he's just about out of gas.
Customer service is the entire presentation. Are they wondering...is that all you got? Maybe they think I'm worth more than this.
All restaruants sell food. What makes one higher priced than another. Fine dining implies something. So does a hot dog cart. Each just painted a picture in your mind. See what I'm talking about now? The picture it paints, that's customer service too. You expect each to do or provide certain things just from the vision it created.
Visualization is very powerful in selling. How does your presentation look to the bar owner. How does it look to the singers. How it sounds is another part.
Sight and sound are the most powerful senses we have. A big part of being a chef is the presentation. The lobster laying out on the shell...and the placement of the trimmings and garnishes. It's all calculated for maximum effect and enjoyment. It helps to make you think you are getting your moneys worth.
You can look at some systems and you know before you hear it what's coming. Because it isn't much to look at.
You can tell when you walk into a dive bar or a fine establishment.
Customer service...Did I fully service all of my customers needs?....Was I what they expected? Where they fully satisfied? Was it better than they expected? How do I stack up to the competition?

Hello All,
I agree! Customer Service is king!
The important thing to relalize also is that is for both the bar patrons and the BAR as well. If you a great to your sings but a bear to work with for the bar owner your run at the bar will be short-lived
Same is true on the other end... you bend over backwards for the Bar but are a jerk to your singers and you're screwed.
Remember that you are an entertainer.
See my blog at http://www.innovativemarketingfortheent ... gspot.com/ for some additonal insight on this.
You need to acknowledge that you are there to be entertaining and you can excel!
