In addition to the credit, will I get the full value of my trade-in vehicle?
No. The law requires your trade-in vehicle to be destroyed. Therefore, the value you negotiate with the dealer for your trade-in vehicle is not likely to exceed its scrap value. The law requires the dealer to disclose to you an estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in vehicle.
Scrap value is about $200-400...
So if you have a vehicle worth more than $3500-4500 you will not get a good trade-in. My truck is worth twice what I could get with the clunker program.
My clunker Truck is a 2001 with 36,500 miles.
When they said clunker....that's exactly what they mean. A piece of crap car not worth anything.
It's a plan to have everyone in the ghetto up grade on our tax dollars.
I won't get any cash for my clunker.....
I can't wait to get my new health care plan I won't be eligable for.....
The Big Loop Hole with the Cash for Clunkers...
LOL - my political views will probably get me arrested in the near future, BigDog, and it won't matter which half of The Party - Republicrats or Demicans - is in power at the time.
They'll charge me with treason for advocating that the government abide by the strictures set forth in the Constitution.

Last week, I went to Philadelphia, but it was closed.
My tax dollars are eligable to be used, but not by me. Only people that don't pay tax...qualify.
North Korea, Iran, Venezuela...are all starting to look pretty good.

Don't do anything stupid...that's why we elect a President.

Now isn't that a novel idea? LOLMoonrider wrote:... the government abide by the strictures set forth in the Constitution.

Ya know ... I have a couple of "clunkers". One is a 73 Ford F-350, the other is a 67 Jeep Wagoneer.
There are several advantages to having these "clunkers":
1. Cheaper registration (in CA it goes by vehicle value)
2. Hubby can take care of all mechanical issues
3. We have no car payments
4. Insurance is cheaper
I only see one disadvantage ... poor gas mileage.
What would be my incentive to trade these vehicles in for a newer car? I can't think of any.

The car dealers have to notify the government if they want to participate.
Given that the can screw people like me out of a lot of money if I'm stupid enough to trade in a vehicle worth more than the clunker bailout payment.
Think about it...the government pays the clunker money to the dealer.
The dealer tells you your trade in is only worth the $200 scrap price. So they only take $200 off the sticker price for your trade in. You are paying full price for your vehicle. Then they deduct the clunker money from the sticker and they just made full profit money. Because you could have talked them down the $3500 clunker payment anyway.
Win, win for the dealers....They never saw anything like this before. Full sticker price profit on almost every sale.
I need to renew my dealer & salesman license.
Those guys will make full comission. It's a great time to be a car salesman. Need a high paying commission job? At least until November.
