This is about the singers loyalty to the bar, the KJ and smoking.
There is a pivotal girl that brings a crowd with her. Mainly because she buys the drinks. Her husband is clueless about her many credit cards, in his name and the total amount of debt she has racked up behind his back.
She was a regular at the Thursday smoking show I quit. She smokes. The KJ that took my place got fired already. But he seemed to take special care of this girl during the night. Saving songs for her so she could sing them before someone else that just turned it in. Special rotation privileges.
He just started a new job that is at least 40 miles away. She took the crew with her last night. It's a smoking bar. She gets totally trashed whenever she goes out. I worry about the safety of them because she does the driving.
To her credit, she is s good singer and a nice girl. But she tends to get bossy and loud.
Appearantly there is a loyalty with many singers to...
1. the Bar. Because she and the crew don't regularly follow me. They stayed there for the new KJ.
2. the KJ...when they provide special singing privileges.
3. Smokers want to stay in the bar and smoke. Going outside is a pain for some people.
Do other KJs see pivotal singers that attract others for whatever reason? If they show up you have a good night, if they don't the night suffers. I have had other crowd influential singers before.
Do you have singers that will regularly travel 40 miles to sing with you? I have a few that will travel 32 miles once in a while but not regularly. They site the drinking and driving issue.
40 miles oneway....to sing!!!!

All of my gigs (6 a week) are within 20 miles of each other so its not uncommon to see the same singers at each venue one time or another.
My nights are usually made or broken by the volume of people that show up and spend money.
The nights are definitely better for me if certain singers show up that can actually carry a tune. It seems that the better singers attract bigger crowds. If I have 4 or 5 bad singers in a row it effects my night in a negative fashion. I try to not let this happen but sometimes it's unavoidable. I show no favortism to the good singers but it certainly cheers me up to see them walking through the door.

I like places that are close to home because of the drinking thing. Granted, hubby drives and I drink more than he does; but I still don't want him having to drive very far.
I am very loyal to my KJ, not the bar, and would follow him to another place if it wasn't much farther away.
As far as pivotal singers ... nope. Not at the deli or the bar.
