Looking for a new mixer

Post by DanG2006 »

I am looking for a mixer that has the same adjusments as my old karaoke mixer amp. I need to have seperate controls for each microphone's echo, high, mid and low so I can make the adjustments I need to make for each singer. I haven't been able to locate one that is at least three rack spaces.

I use a 16 channel mixer mounted horizontally (flat) on the slant top of the rack box. Are you looking for a vertical 3 rack space mixer?

Yes, I need it to fit in my rack which has 3 spaces avaialble for a mixer, this includes the space already taken up by my present mixer. this is to replace a one space mixer which while functioning, doe not give me the flexibility to adjust for every individual singer but only adjusts globally. I have actually found two that would do the job on ebay. One is a Samson PL2404 mixer, I'll have to convert all my connections to 1/4 but I have the adapters for my laptop connection already. The other is a Behringer Euroraack Pro 120FX. The only thing I believe I am giving up is a multiplex button. After looking at the specs for the samson I am leaning toward the behringer as the behringer has effects built in while the samson would require an effects processor connected to the auxilirary sends.
If my buddy still lived here, I would be more inclined for the samson unit as he could help me set up the effects processor.

From a brand reliability and quality perspective, I'd shade toward the Behringer as well. Both are pretty entry level as far as pro-audio but Behringer is a little more respected. The 3U size is definitely going to be the tough part of your search, not too many rack mount mixers that come in that small of a package.

I'm assuming from your description that you're looking for a mixer with built-in effects because you are not using an outboard effects unit today? Alesis makes a couple really nice 3U rack mount units however they don't have built in effects processors.

I'm curious why you have two seperate mixers in your rig? Is there potential to replace both of them with one new one that has more channels, etc? That would open up a lot more options for you.

No I only have had one mixer at a time. The first was a karaoke mixer/amplifier that blew on me recently. The one I have now has less controls for the mikes so I am wanting to get a mixer that has the controls I want in it. Turns out I was wrong about the model of the behringer one it actually is a Eurorack Pro 1202fx. I put a bid on the samson but because I was cheap and didn't want to blow my budget might get overbidded.
