Got a new case!!

Post by letitrip »

Hey folks, don't know if any of you are looking for an equipment rack at this point but I wanted to tell you about a great experience I just had. I have been looking for a while to replace the equipment rack I had (20U "fuzzy" sided rack) with a slant top rack that I could also mount my mixer in. I wanted one that was on wheels as opposed to requiring a table to sit on and I needed a minimum of 10U space in the vertical rack. After searching my normal vendors, it seemed clear I'd be paying $350 or better for what I wanted.

Well I stumbled across a posting on eBay for an AZone 10x12 rack case for about $150. I was leary of the price but decided what the hell. I got it last week and I couldn't be much happier. They call it an ATA "Style" case. What that means is it's made with the same materials and such but doesn't have a true ATA certification. Since I don't plan on traveling with it, this is OK by me. The case itself is pretty well made. Huge locking casters, great useable depth, a removable door on the back with a big grommet for running the cables through. The only disappointment I had at all was that the ad said the slant top (for the mixer) was adjustable but it turns out it is not (I've settled this with the vendor who was very accomodating). I've used it for two gigs so far and actually got compliments on how nice it looked!!

I'd encourage you if you're looking for this type of rack to check them out. If anyone is interested, I could post some pics of the rack.

Thanks for the info. How were the shipping charges? I know they are often inflated at ebay.

Shipping wasn't too bad, $40 for an oversized package weighing 70 pounds.
