Simply converting the WAV to MP3 with the same name as the CDG does not guarantee it will be suitably synchronized with the lyrics. Even the slightest variation in the tempo of the audio will cause sync problems. By converting the BIN file you are guaranteed the exact synchronization that you originally created. Also, the whole point of using the MP3+G format is to save disc space. A like quality WAV+G would be around 8 times the file size of an MP3+G.
