Come on... I was hoping he'd choose Palin as his running mate. That would complete the Trump circus freak show. If Rubio were to be his running mate he would have to publicly support ALL of Trump's absurdities. I don't see that gaining them anything. The only hope that Trump has is if Democrats have a very poor showing at the polls. It would have to less of a showing than the past two elections. I really don't see that happening. I think the opposite will happen as Trump excites rational and sane people to get out and vote against him.The Lone Ranger wrote:wiseguy wrote:
Those were Republican Hispanics voting in Nevada. Latest research indicates that nation wide just 20% of Hispanic voters identify themselves as Republican while 67% identify themselves as Democrat. Even independents tend to vote Democrat. If Trump goes up against any Democrat he will lose badly among Hispanic voters.
I don't doubt that in a general election Trump will suffer for his negative comments about minorities, and his blanket deportation threats. Even conservative Hispanics should realize that his election will be bad for the minority communities they live, and do business in. One idea that has been floated is that Rubio being young will consent to be Trump's VP nominee. This would be in the hope of maybe getting Florida in the Republican's win column and peeling off some of the Hispanic vote from the Democrats. Let's all hope you are right and Trump won't win the general election, it would seem his support is broad based at least in the Republican party.

After all he would be just one heartbeat away from being the most powerful chief executive in the world. If he had to, I bet Rubio would kiss the pet pig, to have a chance to be President down the road. At least he would have a steady job for another 4 to 8 years and he would only be 48 to 52 years old. I feel that Trump will get more voters out on both sides, you have to remember his message is appealing according to polls to the Regan Democrats of yore. The very one's Ronald Regan got to defect from the Democratic Party, and Bill Clinton convinced to come back in the fold. If you notice Rubio and Trump have not been attacking each other, I wait to see what will happen on the CNN debate tonight at 5:30 PST. Both Cruz and Rubio have been hitting each other in order to make it a two man race, in the mean time Trump stands a fair chance of running the table on super Tuesday.
Re: New KJ, I have some questions
I wasn't implying that Rubio would turn down the invitation. I was saying that it wouldn't help Trump get elected. There are no parallels between Trump and Reagan. Reagan was a likeable person. He didn't alienate entire groups. Many Democrats voted for Regan... hell, I voted for Regan. Trump and his supporters are the worst of America. Fortunately, they are very much the minority. I truly want Trump to get the nomination. I want to watch him get annihilated in presidential debates against an intelligent politician who doesn't care about pissing him off. I want to watch his narcissistic ego deflate when he has to give that concession speech after he is totally humiliated in the general election. The Lone Ranger wrote:wiseguy wrote: Come on... Don't think to keep from having to go back to the Senate and being one out of a hundred, Rubio would not play ball with Trump.

One thing for sure is if Trump is the standard bearer of the Republican Party we will really have a stark contrast to who ever the Democrats run against him. After Rubio's attacks last night I think his chances of being Trump's VP have diminished. It would seem to me the logical choice would be John Kasich, after all Ohio is important also, and he really hasn't attacked anyone. He is probably the best person the Republican Party could run, but he just can't make it in the primaries, which have moved way to far to the right.
Re: New KJ, I have some questions
Rubio kicked Trump's ass in the debate last night. I thought the Donald was about to burst into tears a couple of times. His ego can't handle degradation. He is a true narcissist. But he hasn't seen anything yet. Can you imagine what Clinton's superpacs or Sander's campaign managers are going to do to him if gets the nomination? Every dirty deed and dirty deal will be exposed continuously. I don't think he could handle it.The Lone Ranger wrote:wiseguy wrote: I wasn't implying that Rubio would turn down the invitation. Well wiseguy if you really want Trump to get the nomination it looks like he has better chance than any of the other candidates right now, unless something drastic happens between now and Super Tuesday. The debate had both Rubio and Cruz attacking Trump but I think it is too little too late. Some polls have Rubio, Cruz, and Kasich all losing their own home states. If this happens each one will be compelled to quit the race in turn, since they lose all validity as real contenders. There are some things that both Trump and Regan shared, the so called party insiders didn't take each of them seriously until it was too late. In the case of Regan with the first trillion dollar deficit, his election ushered in big government spending that has been the corner stone of Washington politics ever since. Who knows what Trump will do if he were to get elected? After all he is all over the board and really isn't a true conservative, even Regan started out as a Democrat and was President of the Screen Actors Guild, back in the 50's.

I still believe that Rubio will end up getting the nomination. Especially if he keeps doing what he did last night and expose Trump for what he really is.

Re: New KJ, I have some questions
Rubio does have a narrow path to the nomination. It will probably require, first, for him to improve upon his current polling on Super Tuesday. Even a couple of percentage points taken from Cruz would probably be enough for Rubio to beat Cruz almost everywhere but Texas. A couple more percentage points and Rubio could be competitive with Trump in states like Virginia. Then he’ll have to make some further progress before March 15, when winner-take-all Florida and Ohio vote, and probably hope that one or more of his rivals drops out.The Lone Ranger wrote:wiseguy wrote: Rubio kicked Trump's ass in the debate last night. Only one problem wiseguy there isn't enough time between the debate and Super Tuesday, and there won't be another debate before the winner take all states of March 15th. Personally I think Rubio and Cruz have waited too long to attack Trump hoping he would implode and they would pick up his voters. After all there were 9 debates before they got tough with the Donald last night. All of the polls put Trump way ahead of the competition except in Texas where Cruz is thought to hold the advantage narrowly. Rubio keeps being asked by reporters which state he is going to win, and he can't name one. I saw one pundit that gave Rubio and Trump A-'s for last night performances. Cruz and Kasich got B's, and Carson got a C+. Most reports I have seen have Rubio losing his home state of Florida by 20 points on March 15th. The reason Rubio and Cruz have gone after each other is because, they felt they could not peel off any of Trump's base, since they made up their minds to support him months ago. We will know more after Tuesday, if Rubio doesn't win any states, that only leaves the Hail Mary Pass, winner take all Florida primary. Even after that there still are the rust belt states, California and New York, that play to Trumps strong side. Kasich won't get out until after Ohio depending on it's outcome, that is one place voters would go from him to Rubio. Everything is still going Trumps way the only thing that might stop him, is a brokered convention, they haven't had one in years. Then there is the risk Donald might turn rogue and run as a 3rd party candidate. Splitting the Republican Vote and insuring a Democrat will win.
I don't want Rubio to get the nomination even though he would lose as well. I want Trump's supporters to see what real Americans think of bigoted, racist, politicians when he loses the election by the widest margin in history.

Also it is pay back for Chris since Rubio's super pacs knocked him out of the race by stopping his momentum in New Hampshire. It was Christie that stuck it to Rubio in the debate in New Hampshire and labeled him the robot boy. It would seem that Christie isn't over New Hampshire the old story of the enemy of my enemy is my friend, holds true of Christie and Trump. Rubio is learning a tough lesson you have to watch the people you kick on the way up you will meet them again on your way down. After all revenge is a dish best served cold.
Re: New KJ, I have some questions
Did you hear what Mitch McConnell said the other day? He said if Trump became president the Republican party would turn their back on him. You know when McConnell vows to obstruct a president he follows through. Imagine being president and getting no support from either party. He would be powerless. Nothing he wanted could get passed and his vetoes would be overridden. It looks like Trump could be just the president to bring the two parties together... in a common goal to nullify him.

Right now the Republican party would rather see a Democrat win the general election than Trump. They're terrified, and rightly so, that a Trump presidency would mean big Republican losses in Congress and the Senate. Republicans have already lost the ability to be a serious national party. The Tea Party accomplished that. The Lone Ranger wrote:wiseguy wrote:Did you hear what Mitch McConnell said the other day? This is all playing into Trumps hands since he can say to the primary voters that the Republican establishment is against him their voted for nominee. This is going to cause as split in the Republican Party and will end it's ability to be a serious National Party. If Trump gets the number of delegates to win the nomination and he doesn't get it, all of his supporters will cry foul and stay at home on election day. This shows that the will of the people can be subverted by party hacks if it suits their purposes.

P.S. It would be better for Hillary to win for one reason. If the Republicans continue to be the majority and they oppose the Democrat President who in the party would blame them? If, however, they block the Republican President how is that going to look?
